Executive Summary:
The Street Trust is seeking an energetic and effective individual and strategic thinker who will help the organization build a complete streets movement in Oregon, through effective marketing, communications and public relations. This senior level position is responsible for developing and executing an organization-wide strategic communications plan and executing strong campaigns in collaboration with all of our departments. To be successful, these campaigns will engage business, government and media partners. Be a part of a fun team, and help build a newly expanded organization. The position will supervise interns, volunteers, and project-specific contractors for hire.

The Street Trust (formerly Bicycle Transportation Alliance) is a non-profit membership organization working to promote bicycling, walking and transit. Since 1990, The Street Trust has worked in partnership with citizens, businesses, community groups, government agencies and elected officials to create communities where people can meet their daily transportation needs through active transportation.

We envision a community where everyone, from all racial backgrounds, has access to safe, healthy and affordable transportation options in the neighborhoods where they live, work, learn, pray and play. We want all residents to share equally in the prosperity created by investments in active transportation regardless of race, income and socio-economic status.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with The Street Trust’s leadership team, including our Executive Director, Campaign
  • Director, Development Director and Public Policy Director, the position’s responsibilities include:
  • Develop, implement and evaluate The Street Trust’s strategic communications plan in collaboration with the organization’s leadership team.
  • Drive communication, marketing strategies and public relations, including writing and producing campaigns, fundraising appeals and event promotion.
  • Manage the organization’s brand and work with staff and board in implementing overall brand strategy. Develop and ensure consistency of The Street Trust’s voice, internally and externally.
  • Work collaboratively in coalition-based campaigns, while maintaining The Street Trust’s unique voice.
    Proactively cultivate relationships with the media; pitch positive, message-based stories; and respond to events.
  • Work closely with staff to draft or edit internal and external materials, including messaging documents, electronic communications, social media, grant proposals, etc.
  • Assist in finding and managing resources to expand our communications capacity, including working with paid contractors, pro bono agencies, interns and volunteers.
  • Provide strategic direction for updates or changes to The Street Trust’s website, database and digital communications platforms.
  • Provide professional writing and copy editing, both directly or through additional resources.
  • Serve as a public face of the organization at speaking engagements and in the media.

Communications
Use effective communications to powerfully and efficiently help build The Street Trust and help us meet our strategic goals. Translate our vision, mission and strategic plan for targeted constituents and stakeholders with the goal of developing campaigns that move the public to support our work and to “win.” Use public relations skills to represent The Street Trust with the media, the public, policy makers, community partners, The Street Trust members and potential members.

Marketing and Brand Implementation
Engage staff, board and members to build a strong message and voice for The Street Trust.

Job Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated success at working effectively, in a collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including public speaking skills.
  • Self-starter with ability to improve systems.
  • Very high attention to detail, including accuracy and efficiency.
  • Excellent time management skills, including ability to balance multiple (and sometimes competing) priorities. Ability to meet multiple deadlines.
  • Understanding and effective use of digital communications tools, broadcast email services, and complex CRM systems.
  • Basic design skills preferred.
  • Integrity, honesty, professionalism and accountability are fundamental to the position.

Requisite Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations or equivalent related experience.
  • 5+ years work experience in communications, development, marketing and/or public relations.
  • Ability to use technology to achieve goals, including experience with complex CRM databases; social marketing sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram; and other tools to engage various demographic populations.
  • Knowledge of Macintosh OS, Google Apps and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge and experience with WordPress, Salesforce and MailChimp preferred.
  • Experience in membership-based organizations and/or campaigns preferred.
