POSITION SUMMARY: 
The PR and marketing specialist is an integral part of a fast-paced, project and results-oriented communications team. She or he works to develop, enhance, and maintain the council’s image and brand. The incumbent is responsible for contributing to the creation, implementation, and management of strategies for public relations, communications, media, and marketing campaigns promoting Girl Scouts to internal and external audiences, using all forms of media available to increase girl and adult membership and gain financial and community support. She or he develops and implements marketing initiatives to generate leads for both adult volunteers and girl members.

JOB DUTIES:
• Supports the development and implementation of a comprehensive council marketing, public relations and communications strategy and plan.
• Develops and implements marketing initiatives to generate leads for both girl members and adult volunteers using a variety of venues (organic, paid and in-kind Web, digital, social media, TV, radio, print, and direct mail).
• Tracks performance of council marketing initiatives (using Salesforce marketing campaigns and other available tracking tools). Analyzes market trends (in collaboration with other departments as necessary), gathers customer insights and recommends changes to communications and marketing plans based on analysis and feedback.
• Establishes and cultivates relationships with media representatives throughout the council jurisdiction. Seeks media opportunities to support the recruitment of girls and adults, promote Girl Scout programs, and attract new funding sources.
• Proactively researches stories, collects testimonials, writes press releases and pitches feature articles that enhance the Girl Scout image and brand and provide increased visibility to the council.
• Supports director of communications in responding to inquiries from news media and provides guidance on responding to requests for information about the council; supports the council’s designated/lead spokesperson as necessary and appropriate.
• Curates and moderates GSOSW’s social media presence. Manages editorial calendar and tracks performance using in-platform or council-specific tracking tools. Partners with other departments to generate social media content in support of departmental and council-wide goals. Keeps informed of social media standards/trends and emerging platforms.
• Works collaboratively with communications team and other departments to develop campaigns, communications pieces and messages that support and achieve the council’s membership, fund development and other goals.
• Develops and maintains a working partnership with volunteers at all levels of the organization that encourages the exchange of public relations and marketing opportunities, capitalizes on local knowledge and positively promotes Girl Scouts. Provides support and resources that are readily available to assist volunteer efforts.
• Recruits, trains and supports “Media Rockstars” team, preparing girls at all grade levels to serve as expert spokespeople for GSOSW public relations opportunities (fall membership recruitment, Girl Scout Cookie Program, etc.). Facilitates age-appropriate training, manages communication and facilitates appearances for girls on the “Media Rockstars” team.
• Gathers, creates and manages content, photos, video and other assets for marketing purposes.
• Participates in the council’s strategic planning and budgeting process as it relates to area of work.
• Participates in department, organizational and regional council events that occur outside of normal office hours (occasional day and overnight travel required).

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Skills:
• A minimum of 2 years successful work experience in the field of communications, journalism, public relations, marketing.
• Experience with marketing campaign and lead generation strategies, implementation and analysis.
• Experience acting as a company spokesperson; comfortable and skilled in both broadcast and print media interviews. Experience establishing and cultivating strong media relationships.
• Outstanding oral and written communication abilities, strong judgment, decision-making and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work both independently and function as a contributing member of a team, as well as work with diverse groups of people to accomplish goals.
• Willingness to accept the principles of the Girl Scout Movement as expressed in the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

This is a full-time, exempt position offering a salary of $34,300. This position is open until filled.
