Social Media Intern

The Toolbox Project

Help develop and implement public information and outreach efforts, especially via social media, for the ToolBox Project. The ToolBox Project is a tool-lending library that serves the Eugene-Springfield area by providing members with low-cost access to building and garden tools to transform their homes, businesses and neighborhoods. 
This internship offers an opportunity to promote the ToolBox Project by: 
   ● maintaining, updating and continuously refining the organization’s social media presence (including Facebook and Instagram) 
   ● assessing and establishing additional social media platforms 
   ● creating and editing video footage and infographics 
The internship offers current, real-life experience that will allow a person to further develop research, technical and communication skills ​and​ contribute to community-building efforts. 
Tasks also may include: 
   ● creating and updating content on the organization’s website 
   ● creating communication plans for specific projects 
   ● attending events,meetings and tool library open hours 
   ● preparing news releases, public service announcements and calendar notices for 
   reporters and editors 
   ● developing flyers, brochures and other materials in digital and print formats for the 
   general public, and 
   ● helping to plan and coordinate events 
Deadline to Apply: ​Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis through May, or until the position is filled 
Anticipated start date: ​June 1, 2017 
Duration:​ Preferred 1-year commitment 
Hours:​ Minimum 5 hours per week 
Pay:​ This is an ​unpaid ​internship that will give a student or professional excellent experience with communications and a local nonprofit, plus the opportunity to build relationships in the community. Students can receive academic credit. 

Experience Required/Preferred 
   ✓ Excellent written and oral communication skills 
   ✓ Familiarity with social media platforms and strategy ✓ Familiarity with Microsoft Office software 
   ✓ Ability to work independently and take direction 
Also desirable: 
   ✓ Knowledge of practices related to communications, public relations and public information 
   ✓ Experience in use of social media for promotion and outreach 
   ✓ Graphic design skills, including experience with Adobe Creative Suite and Canva
