Job Description

The Western Environmental Law Center (WELC) is a 501(c)(3) public interest law firm that uses the power of the law to safeguard the wildlife, wildlands, and communities of the American West. We seek a dynamic and energetic Communications Director to leverage our conservation advocacy campaigns with our supporters and the broader public. This exciting full-time position will be located in Eugene, Oregon or Taos, New Mexico and will be filled as soon as possible. 


Bachelor’s degree, preferably in communications, journalism, or environmental field.

Demonstrated expertise, understanding, and familiarity with Western U.S. wildlands, water, wildlife, climate, and energy issues.

Excellent research, writing, and oral presentation skills.

Organized and self-motivated with proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects, adhere to deadlines, and prioritze under pressure.

Ability and, ideally, demonstrated capacity to integrate communications with the organization’s strategic advocacy campaigns.

Experience developing, creating, maintaining, and managing websites and other social media platforms is preferred.

Experience creating strategic organizational messaging as well as experience in brand development and brand management is preferred.

Experience developing, organizing, and managing events is preferred.

Strong interpersonal skills to foster team-based relationships with staff and the organization’s clients, partners, and allies.

A love and respect for the American West’s environment.
