Description:Overview The Oregon Dairy Products Commission is looking for an energetic and capable summer intern to join our Communications team. Intern should have the drive to work hard and approach challenges with a sense of humor. The position will provide the intern with an introduction to public relations, corporate communications and special events.
This internship is open in the Portland, OR office. This small office houses communications, marketing, nutrition education and school programs departments. Mentorship from a dynamic PR pro will be included. It is a paid internship program for approximately 90 days with a preferred start in June 2013.
Currently studying towards or completed a Bachelor's degree in communications or journalism. Preferred emphasis in agriculture communications, or public relations. •
Involvement and/or familiarity with agriculture or dairy industry preferred. •
Strong written and verbal communication skills a must. Experience in developing written materials that are organized, professional and concise. •
Understanding of the changing digital landscape. •
Skilled in using social media for achieving business objectives. •
Microsoft office skills including Outlook, Excel, Word and PPT. •
Excellent project coordination and time management skills. •
Willingness to accommodate light travel, and work some nights and weekends to support special events.
Learning opportunities include, but are not limited to: •
Develop messages and visual content such as video and photographs for website and social media •
Compile media lists •
Research editors/reporters and opportunities •
Compile and write feature stories •
Compile and update database of stakeholders •
Develop brief lesson kit for schools •
Assist with marketing and consumer events
About our internship program •
The internship duration is approximately 90 days with some flexibility on start/end date. •
Hours will vary 30-40 hours a week depending on project, some night and weekend hours may be required. •
The intern is not entitled to a job at the conclusion of the internship. •
Intern pay is $10/hour. •
Intern is not eligible for employee benefits. •
You'll gain experience and/or training in media list development, PR writing, project management, and more! You’ll also have new materials for your portfolio at the conclusion of the internship.
