Unpaid Internship

Dates of Position: Fall Term 2013

Time Commitment: 10‐15 hours per week

Will provide support to the Media Team by assisting with coordinating social media outreach opportunities and building the organization’s social media presence.

Primary Responsibilities:

Be a part of the media team that is working to establish a strategy for public outreach. Assist with building ORI’s social media presence by

  Assisting in the ongoing development of ORI’s media plan (specifically social media and website content)identifying opportunities to promote ORI on social media websites

  using the internet to find stories that are relevant and related to research being conducted at ORI

  working with the media team to gather meaningful internal stories that promote our science

  writing, editing and uploading posts for social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter,

LinkedIn and YouTube

  Conducting interviews and assisting with content development for ORI website

  working with the media team to ensure a consistent message and voice

Other duties as assigned

What the Intern can expect from the Internship experience

Bi‐weekly participation in the Public Relations/Outreach Team meetings Improve writing style and journalistic accuracy Gain insight into media relations Improve critical thinking

Gain valuable experience working in a professional non‐profit environment

Ideal Candidate should possess the following qualifications:

Must be comfortable navigating Facebook, Twitter and other social media websites Excellent verbal and written communication skills Proficient in journalistic style

Related work experience or course of study—Web Design, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or other applicable field

Strong interest in journalism, blogs and social media An understanding or background in behavioral science or psychology would be useful Strong web‐research skills Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, while meeting deadlines High standard for accuracy and attention to detail
