THE INTERNWe're looking for an Editorial Intern with sharp writing and editing skills, attention to detail and enthusiasm. Our ideal candidate is passionate about researching a variety of topics and writing in a style that is accessible, with plenty of wit and cultural awareness thrown in. Strong communication skills, creativity, an ability to meet deadlines, and social media chops are also key to this position.
Financial proficiency and previous editorial experience are a bonus but not required. Ideally, you'll be ready to hit the ground running and learn about our process as you go.
THE GIGThis is a paid internship open to both current college students and recent grads. We'll treat you like one of our professional colleagues and won't ever ask you to shine our shoes, bring us coffee, or perform other menial tasks unrelated to your career aspirations.
We need someone to hit the ground running. Enthusiasm and energy (creative and caffeinated) will be essential.
Proactively participate in the creative cycle (magazine, blogs, and/or video) with the entire content department to pitch stories and refine ideas.
Write for the magazine, two different blogs, and several other products, all with their own styles and content requirements.
Financial or personal finance knowledge isn't required, but it's helpful. If you don't know how to write a business plan in the morning, you should be able to find out how by lunchtime.
Attention to detail will be essential, not just for editing and proofing, but in accurately following procedures and directions.
Bachelor's degree (or at least part of one) in Journalism, English, or Communications. However, if you can prove you can hack it, we won't ask for a copy of your diploma.
Experience in publishing. Web publishing would be ideal, but experience with magazines or even newspapers would be great.
Able to work well with Microsoft Office--specifically Outlook, Word and Excel--WordPress, and Google Docs. Bonus points if you know Drupal.
Basic knowledge of and familiarity with social media.
This is a rotating internship with openings for new interns approximately every three months. If it doesn't fit into your schedule now, apply anyway and we'll put your application on ice.
Ideal commitment is at least six months or two terms
About 35 hours per week
Performance evaluations every quarter help evaluate how the position is fulfilling both company needs and professional needs for the intern.
Please send résumé and cover letter to firstname.lastname@example.org, along with at least three clips and any portfolio material you might have.
