Local Food Connection Conference: 

The Local Food Connection is an annual day-long conference that brings together food producers (farmers, ranchers and fishermen) with food buyers from restaurants and grocery stores, distributors, and food processors. The event features facilitated networking sessions, breakout workshops, a keynote presentation, and a fabulous Local Food Luncheon featuring ingredients donated by conference attendees. 


Hours/Credits: 60 hours per term for two terms (Fall 2015, Winter 2016) for a total of 120 hours, or approximately 6 hours/week from September through February. Up to 4 credits available but not required for internship. 

Start date & weekly schedule: Start date is the week of September 28th (first week of fall term). Weekly schedule will be negotiated depending on class schedules, and may ‘flex’ monthly. 

Stipend: $400 educational stipend 

Positions available: One 120 hour position 


Internship Description: 

This is an unpaid internship, with a stipend provided to cover expenses incurred during the course of the internship (e.g. gas, supplies). 

As an Outreach Intern, you will be directly assisting the conference planners with all aspects of event promotion and outreach. This will include, but is not limited to: 

 Helping prepare mailings of Save the Dates and Event Invitations 

 Managing online and social media promotion of the event 

 Performing targeted outreach- both in-person or via phone/email- to new food businesses in Eugene and Springfield 

 Where possible, attending event planning meetings with our Planning Committee 

 Participating in the full conference on Monday, February 1st 2016 


This internship is a great opportunity for a student interested in local food, with a background in written communications and social media. Individuals who are comfortable making ‘cold call’s or in-person visits to recruit food businesses to the event will be a good fit for this position. Reliability, and a mature, professional demeanor are essential characteristics. 


Core requirements of the internship are: 

 Complete monthly benchmarks for mailings and social media outreach 

 Attend twice-monthly meetings with conference planners 

 Complete targeted in-person outreach to food businesses 

 Available to work all day on Monday, February 1st 2016 


Desired Qualifications 

1. Familiarity with or interest in public relations/communications 

2. Experience managing social media outreach campaigns 

3. Experience with event planning 

4. Enjoyment of working and collaborating with others
