The Herald and New is seeking a Photojournalist/Videographer/Social media coordinator for its newsroom.
The photojournalist must be a versatile news photographer who is well-versed in social media, and videography. The job includes writing news stories; tailoring them to fit the various media platforms. This person must be extremely well organized and pay attention to important details.
The successful candidate is a photographer first, a demanding job that includes shooting several prep and college sporting events weekly. While our reporters are all good photojournalists, there are times when the photographer will accompany a reporter on breaking news and in-depth coverage.
Sports photography is key, as we cover several area high schools, two colleges and a host of sports clubs. We also cover four counties in Southern Oregon and Northern California.
The employee must excel in: Photoshop and related CS5 software, such as Word, Bridge and other software for organizing photos. The photographer is also a videographer and must be skilled in Premier Final Cut Pro or related editing software. Social media platforms include Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and others as deemed necessary.
This person will helping guide our social media efforts across the newsroom.
The Herald and News is a 14,000 circulation 5-day a week, morning newspaper. We don’t stop there, updating our social media platforms on the days we don’t publish a hard copy; Saturdays and Mondays.
We’re in the heart of the high country of Southern Oregon; sandwiched between Crater Lake National Park and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. Lots of outdoors hiking, biking, skiing, fishing and camping.
