Exciting job opportunity with the Division of Equity and Inclusion for student to develop their photo and video portfolio!!

 

Skills required:

  • Strong skills in:
    • Photo and video shooting
    • Photo and video editing
    • Organizing/labelling and captioning photos and videos for easy access and archiving.
    • Understanding of and interest in equity and inclusion issues.
    • Written and oral communication.
    • General organizational skills.
  • Design skills a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Able to work flexible schedule.

 

Hours: 10 – 15 hrs./per week (varies). Includes evening and weekend work.

Pay: $11/hr.

Starting date: Any time after 9/10 (but no later than start of fall quarter)

 

Student will also receive professional guidance and assistance from University Communications.

 

Student will spend their time on the following projects:

 

  1. Heritage Months+ Projects (45%):
    1. Student will attend various Heritage Month and other major events to gather photos and video of events, including but not limited to signature events. Student may create stills, slide show and video. In addition to general photos of event, student will consider, for example:
      1. Interviewing organizers, award winners (if applicable)
      2. History of the event
      3. Population of the Heritage month at the UO and in the community.
      4. Writing brief descriptions or captions for photos and videos.
      5. Other relevant info

 

  1. Heritage Months, etc. to be covered:
    1. Latinx Heritage Month
    2. Native American Heritage Month
    3. Black History Month
    4. MLK events
    5. African-American Speaker and Workshop Series
    6. Asian Pacific American Heritage Month
    7. Women's Heritage Month
    8. Pride month

 

  1. Student will edit and organize photos and videos

 

  1. Our Stories, Our Communities: UO Diversity (25%)
    1. Student will continue with the Our Stories…project. The project consists of a continuous online exhibit of black and white portrait photos with short first-personal narratives (specific pre-established questions are the same for each participant). Exhibit includes diverse students, faculty, staff and alumni. Project may expand to, for example, photos of campus groups, e.g., Black Student Task Force.  Information on the project can be found at: https://inclusion.uoregon.edu/our-stories-our-communities-uo-diversity
    2. Student will arrange for photo shoots; edit and organize photos; arrange and organize narratives, as needed.

 

  1. General photo and video work for Division of Equity and Inclusion (30%)
    1. Attend and shoot various DEI sponsored events, workshops, trainings, meetings, award ceremonies (e.g., President’s Diversity Advisory Community Council, scholarship awards) for DEI photo needs and archives.
    2. Photos for Around the O and other publications to accompany DEI articles.
    3. Photos as needed for website and social media.
    4. Staff photos, as needed.
    5. Other events (e.g., CMAE graduation, PRIDE: CMAE PRIDE Awards: Proudly Recognizing Indigenous Devotion to Education).
    6. Maintain organized database of photos.
    7. Other projects as needed
    8. Student may initiate relevant photo or video projects.
