Producer/Reporter (Oregon Field Guide)


OPB is hiring a Producer/Reporter to tell compelling stories using video, focusing on natural resources, ecological issues, outdoor recreation and travel destinations as part of the award-winning Oregon Field Guideteam. This salaried, exempt position is a full time, regular status position with benefits.

Position Details

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

This Producer/Reporter tells compelling stories using video across distribution platforms (TV, online, radio, mobile, social media, etc.), particularly for Oregon Field Guide (OFG). Typical story length is between seven and ten minutes, and Producer/Reporters are responsible for 10 to 14 stories a year. Producer/Reporters do some production management work, provide voice narration for programs, sometimes appear on camera and occasionally make appearances on behalf of OPB.

 Working Conditions:

Work is done in the field and in an office or edit suite using a computer and other office or production equipment. Fieldwork includes travel to remote locations across the region involving overnight and evening or weekend work. Out-of-town trips are normally three to six days at a time and most filming is done during warm weather months (spring, summer, fall). Field shoots may involve working outdoors in inclement weather where modern conveniences are not available, hiking and other moderately arduous physical activity, carrying equipment up to 30 pounds, using varying modes of transportation and/or sleeping in non-traditional accommodations. Driving is required.

 Required Qualifications:

 Three years professional experience telling quality stories through video/film production or the equivalent combination of experience and education.

Ability to collaborate and innovate with others in the production/content teams to create the best possible stories.

Strong writing skills.

Ability to relate comfortably with a wide range of people.

Self-motivated with some flexibility to set own schedule and meet production deadlines.

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Ability to be on the road for up to a week at a time, sometimes in remote locations, especially during the spring, summer, fall (warm weather months).

Adaptable, flexible, able to carry projects forward independently with appropriate direction and judgment.

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Comfortable making public appearances on behalf of OPB.

Enthusiasm for and understanding of the mission of OPB and for the role of public media in a changing media environment.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Long form storytelling experience.

Knowledge or interest in natural resources, ecological issues, outdoor recreation and travel destinations.

On-camera experience.

Familiarity working with still photography, Adobe editing and Photoshop.
