Internship Overview: 

The Oregon Department of Transportation is recruiting for one part time (10-20 hours per week) intern who is innovative and creative!  We are looking for a student or recent graduate interested in strengthening their communication skills, designing and building engagement materials, and learning about state government. 

You could be a part of this community involvement and be ODOT's Public Engagement Intern this spring! 

The College Internship Program is designed to allow students matriculating through an accredited post-secondary program the opportunity to gain practical experience. We are accepting applications from students in accredited degree programs that are in at least their junior year of a Bachelor's degree program, students enrolled in graduate school or individuals who have graduated within the last year.

Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.


Duties & Responsibilities

This internship will support ODOT's Highway Technical Services Division in Strategic Business Services. Duties will include the following:

Design and build external project engagement materials including creating examples and templates.

Interview agency staff to collect examples of quality engagement materials.

Research best practices in public engagement for government agencies.

Assist in the design and development of an online toolbox for public engagement tools.

Provide general communications support to the public engagement resources rollout.


Qualifications, Required & Requested Skills



Must be a college student currently enrolled in an accredited school majoring in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or Business or have graduated in the last year with a degree in on of the above majors.

Must be at least in your junior year of college.


Preferred Attributes: We may show preference to students/recent graduates whose application materials demonstrate the following:

The ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously.

Experience pro-actively and effectively communicating with others. 

Excellent writing skills.

Proficiency with computer software such as Windows, Microsoft Office Suite, or other applications.


Working Conditions:

Office setting.

Requires internet work, email, and phone interaction.

Requires a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record.

This is a part time internship estimated for 10-20 hours per week.
