The City Manager’s Office provides administrative direction to the City organization by aligning staff work with City Council direction and community values. The City Manager’s Office supports elected and appointed officials, promotes an informed public, and works to ensure City government is effective, accountable and inclusive.
As a public relations intern in the City Manager’s Office, you will work directly with Community Relations Director Jan Bohman. Jan’s job includes directing the City’s internal and external communications efforts; developing and implementing strategies to manage organizational, council, and community issues to ensure that the City’s interests are presented; serving as primary media contact for the City; and advising the Mayor, City Council, and City Manager on public relations and communication efforts.
Intern tasks may include:
Working directly on specific projects relating to community relations, strategic communication, social media and media analysis
Researching and writing news releases
Assisting with writing and production of public information materials, including:
web postings - social media postings - news releases - posters, brochures
Assisting with planning and coordination of community events
Assisting with and attending weekly Public Information Team (PIT) meetings
Attending weekly City Council staff briefings
Administrative task, including:
- Media monitoring - preparing basic analysis reports
Time commitment: Flexible with a minimum of 4 hours total a week.
Start/End Date: Summer position; open to extension
