The National Psoriasis Foundation internship program is an unpaid learning opportunity to help students gain valuable work experience and skills that will assist them in their future careers. The Psoriasis Foundation is seeking a motivated, organized individual to assist in public relations efforts.
Gain a better understanding of the characteristics of a nonprofit organization and the role of communications/public relations in a nonprofit setting.
Track and update Foundation media coverage daily and archive in the system. o
Draft and distribute media materials including news releases, media alerts, public service announcements. o
Develop media lists for various Psoriasis Foundation initiatives. o
Draft news articles for Psoriasis Foundation Web site, publications and other materials. o
Research media outreach opportunities, including magazine editorial calendars. o
Perform research for projects and articles as needed. o
Post Foundation events and programs on various online websites. o
Assist the Communications department as needed.
Actively enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, a university public relations, marketing, communications, journalism or other related program. College credit is available. Current students must have at least a junior standing. o
Knowledge of public relations practices. Interest in nonprofit or health care PR a plus. o
Strong writing skills and the ability to write clearly and effectively. o
Solid knowledge of English grammar and punctuation (prefer knowledge of AP style .) o
Demonstrate ability to work as part of a team, take initiative and follow guidelines. o
Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and the Internet, including social networking. o
Available to work 10-15 hrs/wk; Monday-Friday for two to three month commitment.
