Reporter/Writer Intern for Lane Today

POSITION: Reporter/Writer (several available positions covering news, sports, politics, etc.)

DURATION: 3-6 months (8-10 hours per week)

TYPE: Internship (unpaid) / Volunteer


Lane Today is a new startup internet publication seeking to provide fair and unbiased professional news and information to the greater Lane County area.  We are currently building a team of staff, interns, and volunteers to take this publication to the next level.   This is your chance to gain outstanding professional experience for your resume and portfolio.  No financial compensation is available at this time; however, the potential exists to contribute stories on an ongoing basis.

REQUIREMENTS:Candidates should have a strong desire to develop skills as a reporter/writer and be motivated to develop sources, breaking news, and original story ideas.  Successful candidates can write on a deadline in a clear and engaging way. Applicants should understand the growing importance of multimedia news.  Must possess strong writing skills and have the ability to communicate complex issues in simple terms.  Must be comfortable with working in a fast paced environment and producing written articles quickly.


Strong writing skills

Completed classes in Journalism and/or Technical Writing

Ability to recognize and develop newsworthy stories

Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines

A willingness to work nights and weekends

Excellent communication skills

Must have your own computer with internet access

Must be a current college undergraduate or graduate student to apply.  Recent college graduates are also welcome.


Perform research and conduct interviews

Write articles and/or reviews
