The job of schools/ag/and health reporter for the Herald and News of Klamath Falls, Ore., is a complex and varied one. Our readership is deeply interested in all three topics; one focuses on education, what is being taught in our schools and how effective it is. The other covers Klamath County’s largest economic engine – agriculture. The third is also of high importance now that Klamath Falls is officially a Blue Zones designated project aimed a moving the dial on healthy lifestyles.
The reporter has to be extremely good at multi-tasking, keeping track of events, meetings and trends. Most importantly, the reporter must be successful in developing reliable sources on all three beats.
The Herald and News is a 14,000 circulation 5-day a week, morning newspaper. We don’t stop there, updating our social media platforms on the days we don’t publish a hard copy; Saturdays and Mondays.
We have a small, but determined newsroom that publishes a quarterly lifestyles magazine that highlights the best of our work. Some weekend work is required to fill in for other staffers.
We’re in the heart of the high country of Southern Oregon; sandwiched between Crater Lake National Park and Mt. Shasta in Northern California. Lots of outdoors hiking, biking, skiing, fishing and camping.
