The Social Media Student Assistant is supervised by the Director of Communication and Marketing at UO Libraries and works closely with the UO Libraries Marketing Department. Responsibilities are largely completed independently and online. The qualified student will have experience in using electronic media to promote and expand readership, along with publication management and graphic design experience. Excellent writing and time management skills are required for this position.
Specific duties include:
Update and post on the Cinema Studies social media sites (Webiste, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram), according to the UO Libraries social media plan. Work with Communications Director and Marketing Department to develop a social media and blog calendar each term.
Track social media followers, insights and other information as needed.
Monitor online conversations regarding the University of Oregon and the UO Libraries via HootSuite. Engage in and reply to conversations and comments as needed.
Create original content for the UO Libraries website and blog and promote content via social media channels.
Attend and live tweet and document library events via Instagram.
Draft quarterly progress reports detailing social media growth and current projects.
Assist in creation of simple video promos and profiles for social media and web.
Check the UO Libs social media email at least once a day. Post weekly submissions to the UO Libraries Studies blog. Independently conduct research on library resources, services and collections. Collaborate with Graphic Designer Student Assistant to coordinate term by term campaigns and special promotions. Carry out library signage needs. Distribute event posters on campus.
Compose and distribute Public Service Announcements (PSAs) for library events to broadcast stations in the area.
Post listings on local online and print calendars.
Demonstrated leadership experience in a job or educational setting, working independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent writing and editing skills. Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment in a job or in an educational setting.
Education and/or experience in maintaining social networking sites, including websites, Facebook fan pages, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
Ability to check emails 1-2 times each day, and reply to requests in a timely manner. Knowledge of social media management and monitoring tools, including HootSuite.
Photography and video production background.
Course work in media management, design, advertising, marketing, public relations or in a related field.
Experience and/or education with Adobe Creative Suite, primarily Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.
Experience and/or education in graphic and digital design.
The Position will be about 15 - 18 hours a week with an hourly wage of $10.00
