Social Media Intern

World Bank Africa Region Strategic Comunications

The World Bank's Africa Region Strategic Communications (AFRSC) unit is seeking a hands-on, innovative Social Media intern whose primary responsibility is to assist with growing the Bank's presence in social media and emerging media tools in Africa and globally.

Internship duties include:

Developing metrics and key performance indicators for analyzing and quantifying the benefit and impact of social media

Conceptualizing and researching new social networks in which the Bank should engage

Conceptualizing the development of a “social layer” on the Bank's Africa Region website by integrating blogs, user-generated content, ratings, and other elements

Assisting with developing and marketing key online events on the Africa Region’s Livestream channel

Posting content to Facebook, Twitter and other social media forums in which we engage

Helping to promote the Region's development blog Nasikiliza

Monitoring external blogs and social networks discussing the Bank in Africa and provide analysis of content


Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of 2 years' experience in online marketing and social media communications

Deep knowledge of social media tools, including social bookmarking, tagging, dynamics of XML and blog publishing

Strong understanding of social media in relation to the broader media

Understanding of industry best practices

Excellent oral and written communication and presentational skills

Spoken and written fluency required in English; fluency in French a plus
