Summer 2012 CNN Intern - State of the Union


Qualifications: In order to facilitate the learning experience, the following qualifications are preferred: 1) Broadcast Journalism, Media or Communications major or involvement in student media2) Strong current events knowledge and interest in news and politics.3) Knowledge of CNN news platforms (network shows, website) is helpful.Candidates should also be motivated, detail-oriented multi-taskers who function well under deadline pressures.

Duties: Candy Crowley is Anchor of State of the Union and CNN's Chief Political Correspondent. Interns will learn how Candy and her team plan and execute shows and packages. Interns will shadow and assist producers working with Crowley. They will also receive assistance from the Team if they would like to work on a story of their own. Intern duties include research, fact-checking, tapes logging, assistance with interviews and participation at press events. Interns should come away with sharper editorial and writing skills, exposure to leading technology and an increased knowledge of the U.S. government and political system. Interns will also be involved in CNN's media program, "Reliable Sources" with Howard Kurtz.

Students @ Work Internships paid at minimum-wage and structured to last 10 to 12 weeks. Program dates are June 4th - August 10th. Course Credit is available. Resume and Cover Letter are required. Students should have a strong academic record (3.0 strongly preferred). Students must have completed their sophomore year in college prior to the start of the internship. In addition, students may not have graduated college or graduate school prior to the start of the internship (i.e. STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN SCHOOL DURING THE TIME OF THIS INTERNSHIP). Students seeking college credit are strongly encouraged to apply.
